One of the most important aspects to consider when designing for everyone is the involvement of users throughout the process, on one hand because knowing their needs and expectations is essential to achieve a good design and, of the other, because their diversity will enrich the result.
At the same time, the design process must be inspired by the following fundamentals to achieve designs that are:
- Respectful: It must respect the diversity of all users, so that no one feels marginalized.
- Safe: It should avoid risky situations for users, therefore, all elements that are part of an environment should be designed from a security perspective.
- Healthy: It must not pose any health risk or cause inconvenience to those who suffer from any disease or allergy.
- Functional: It must be designed so that the function for which it has been created can be performed by anyone, without any problems or difficulties.
- Understandable: Any user must be able to navigate without difficulty within a given space, for which it is essential:
- Ensure a clear and appropriate guidance and information system for all.
- Make possible an intuitive and inclusive use.
- Sustainable: It must ensure that natural resources are not wasted and that future generations will have the same opportunities as us to preserve our planet.
- Affordable: Everyone has a chance to enjoy it.
- Attractive: An emotionally and socially acceptable result must be sought, but always bearing in mind the 7 points above.
