Ageing society and population is a challenge in European countries. The costs are increasing in health care and social welfare fields and it is difficult to manage the situation. The aim is that elderly people are healthy and active and are able to stay at home as long as possible.

In InnoEspoo-project we created a new innovative service for Espoo senior citizens and their family network. This project aims to enhance co-operation between city, educational organizations of different levels (vocational, UAS, university) and study programs.

What is (

It is a new internet platform where seniors and their caregivers can find offers business opportunities for private SME wellbeing companies and student co-operatives. In the future it will hopefully reduce the need for municipal aid by increasing demand for private wellbeing services.

How was developed by students?

The service was created by using the models of Moritz Service Design and Wulfen Innovation Journey in co-creation process with students, users and experts. At Laurea the LbD model provides the core of Laurea’s pedagogical philosophy and innovation. It combines students´ working life development-centered learning with RDI activities.

Since 2012 the students from different study programs have worked with seniors and experts first in several wellbeing events and then developing the concept of a senior website. On summer 2014 the team of ICT and Business students built a test portal, which has been now marketed to end users this autumn. Students add content and service providers to the portal all the time.
